Community leadership programs have been invaluable in shaping my journey as a physician and leader. They gave me the confidence and skills to lead through the COVID-19 pandemic—helping me communicate critical health information and build trust in our community. Through media interviews and public outreach, I was able to share vital safety guidance at a time when people needed it most, including morning briefings with the Mayor to ensure people had accurate and timely information.
One of the most important lessons I learned through Leadership Louisville’s programs was how to lead across differences. Leadership isn’t just about having the right answers—it’s about building relationships, listening, and creating buy-in so that people feel valued and heard. Whether it’s taking the time to ask about someone’s day, providing thoughtful feedback, or reminding a team that we are all working toward the same goal, these small actions build the foundation for trust and collaboration.
These experiences also shaped my leadership journey, ultimately positioning me to become the youngest President of the Kentucky Medical Association. They helped me find my voice, build connections, and stay true to my purpose in healthcare. Leadership programs are more than just professional development—they are opportunities to grow as a person, expand your perspective, and create meaningful change in your community.
